|Report lodged against Dompok
Daily Express: 23 Feb 1999.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS has lodged a police report against Chief Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok for having allegedly raised sensitive issues on religion during a meet-the-people session in Penampang on Sunday.
In his report lodged at the downtown police station Monday, Sabah PAS political secretary Haji Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad claimed Dompok had insinuated that PAS could pose a potential threat to peace in Sabah.
Addressing some 300 voters at the gathering, the Chief Minister had called on Sabahans not to allow opposition parties like PAS to gain a foothold in the State.
He said he did not want to see Sabah embroiled in religious disputes as had happened in an Asian country.
In a statement issued here Monday, Wan Azhar described Dompok's statement as sensitive, dangerous and intimidating "which could result in an explosive situation in the wake of the State election".
He also urged the authorities to keep tabs to ensure that
political statements issued during this period do not go to the extremes.
